Maddi returned to the club this year offering her assistance, particularly keen to be involved in re-establishing the women’s program at Phoenix. Being appointed Coach for our 14’s girls team, the first team created within our renewed women’s program.
Maddi’s bought her fabulous enthusiasm to the role and her ability to connect with the players. This commitment and connection was instrumental in cementing the team’s cohesion, which continued to solidify as the season progressed. We do not underestimate Maddi’s efforts that bought about a new team with all new team members, to be transformed into a solid team unit, where team harmony drove the team to reach preliminary finals, where they bowed out by one mere goal from making the grand final in their inaugural season. What An extra-ordinary achievement.
Along with being appointed Womens 14’s coach Maddi also coached Men’s 13’s, fortunately she gathered assistant coaches along the way, working well to create a well-oiled team in themselves.
Not only did she coach two teams Maddi was keen to gather an understanding of how the club operates, so Maddi joined the Management Committee where she was a welcomed contributor. Even picking up several tasks and projects along the way while keenly contributing and observing what it takes to get teams on the field and have the club running smoothly.
Maddi’s extra-ordinary workload, dedication and commitment to Phoenix this season was nothing short of phenomenal. Doing all that she did, she did so embracing and personifying the true SPIRIT of PhoenixLax. That is why Maddison Jeffery is the worthiest recipient of the Bill Magee Spirit Award 2021.
