At the 2021 Presentation Night, aka 125 Year Anniversary celebration several members were recognised for their long & outstanding service to Phoenix Lacrosse Club, being awarded Life Membership.
The Brothers Moir.
As is tradition in ‘lacrosse families’ both Colin & Grant started playing as little tackers.
colin moir
Colin has continued contributing after a long playing career by supporting his sons lacrosse aspirations and coaching many a junior team.
Colin has steered the club through cyclical challenges & helped to implement measures that have future-proofed the club and the directions that we are now witnessing.
Under his leadership the Cockburn City Council felt confident enough to invest $1.4million into the redevelopment of Goodchild in support of the strategy & plans developed through the club’s Forward Planning Process. New state-of-the-art lights completed and a refurbished clubhouse on the way, are just the tip of the iceberg of Colin’s contribution.
Colin’s legacy is that he is an example that by not settling for mediocre, or just because – a vision for the future can be not only extraordinary but obtainable.
grant moir
Grant’s lacrosse journey saw him transition from Phoenix club– Div 2/3 up to State League and back to Div 3 where he still is a much loved and valued player.
Grant, or G as he is known to many is a quiet achiever, always working away at something in the background.
The pied piper of Phoenix Lax, his gift is to be with, and to inspire youth.
The club has witnessed, time & again the transformation of a myriad of young lacrosse players as Grant championed a belief in them.
It was Grant’s foresight & work that Initiated the establishment of lacrosse programs in Cockburn district primary schools and a complimentary interschool carnival several years ago (that grows each year – now incorporating 8 schools).
This is Grant’s legacy – a ready made & growing pool of children new to lacrosse from which we can develop junior programs.
Playing the game, development, officiating, coaching and mentoring, Grant has had a hand in it all and can be relied upon to make it all happen.
Glenda magee
Glenda Magee, the daughter of Bill Magee – AKA Bill Magee Spirit Award – and Dot, as is the way in a lacrosse family tarted playing the game at a young age. She grew to become an adaptable & tenacious player, not surprisingly finding her way to playing top level & representative lacrosse at an early age.
As a Mum, Glenda has supported each of her children’s lacrosse endeavours at whatever level and contribution has been required. A mighty and wholehearted supporter of their journeys. Alongside that Glenda has had endless Club Committee roles, LWA executive roles, project management, event organization, ideas, enthusiasm and a genuine love of the game and people that has seen Glenda work endlessly & tirelessly for dozens of years.
Glenda was THE voice that secured Goodchild for our club when our previous location became untenable. We stand proud to call Goodchild Reserve our home. The place of bright lights and a bright future, the home of Phoenix LAX
Thank you Glenda – for that, and for all that you have contributed and the spirit with which you done it all.
Pat Blair
Pat Blair breaks the mold, she does not come from a lacrosse family like many of us, but has contributed decades of love and support in the background at lacrosse.
Pat is willing to sacrifice what others will not to make those around her feel comfortable and this is why she truly embodies the Phoenix spirit and has been at not only the center of Phoenix’s values but has been a part of creating those values.
Pat’s legacy is summed up by Kyle – one of our more recent imports….
FROM KYLE
‘Pat Blair. What a woman. I am so incredibly lucky to have experienced firsthand her love, compassion, dedication, and commitment to everything she does. I am so glad she was one of my ‘Aussies mums’. She opened he home to not only me, but countless other wanderlust Americans. She would make sure we were all fed and cooked dinners day after day, asking for nothing in return. I remember always going in the club house on game days and seeing Pat back there at the canteen, setting up and tearing down. I cannot express my gratitude I have for that woman, as she cared for me like I was her son. I hope I have made an impact on her life just as she did mine. Go Black’
Pat, the Phoenix Mother Hen & Nurturer – Thank you.
