RISE AGAIN
Phoenix Lacrosse Club aims to provide a strong vibrant club in the South of Perth Metropolitan area. The club is welcoming families, new members and visiting teams offering the potential to participate in all forms of lacrosse year round.
We are delighted to be re-entering the Lacrosse WA Women’s program with a Phoenix Girls team in the 14’s competition this year with a group of young girls who are loving the game. Coaches, Managers, uniforms and everything we need to support them is at the ready for the start o fthe 2021 season.
It has been a journey to return to this point, and there is still plenty of room for more players to join the team and start a lacrosse journey of their own. One where skills, friendship & fun can develop easily and a path into whatever level of participation you might choose
Phoenix punches well above its weight in junior development
Phoenix LAX has a well proven record of producing highly skilled juniors, with a great track record of producing talented juniors as evidenced with five of the six Western Australians selected to travel to Canada in the 2019 U/19 Australian team (pictured below), who were developed through Phoenix LAX Junior program.
As are two current U/19 Australian men’s team players born and bred Phoenixers juniors.
The loss of the Phoenix women’s athletic program was a devastating blow to this family orientated club. Without the women’s program the club is unbalanced; a noticeable hole is felt within the club & its community.
‘Just as you need two hands to use a lacrosse stick to perform well, we need both men and women teams to be a lacrosse club at our best‘
Donelle Smith, Club Manager
‘The club has been a crucial part and reason in myself being able to represent not only my state but also my country, which has been a life-long dream of mine‘
Libby Blair
The club sort to address issues that were contributing to player migration to other clubs. One major area identified was that the club facilities were not fit for purpose.
A feasibility study was undertaken and a new strategic plan initiated. This forged a harmonic relationship as the club worked closely with the recreation services team at City of Cockburn to achieve the substantial upgrades that are currently taking place at Goodchild Reserve.
125 Year Club History (est 1896) set to continue
Phoenix lacrosse Club is immensely thankful to the following organisations involved in the redevelopment. Thankful for the funding offered through various program, and equally as important, thankful for their belief in the club and what Phoenix LAX offers to the community.
Thank you – City of Cockburn
Thank you – The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
City of Cockburn – 2020 funding saw approximately $110,000 upgrading the sports fields at Goodchild Park, including the re-orientation of the rectangular pitches, relocation and replacement of the centre cricket wicket, and the construction / installation of a new limestone retaining wall to provide increased active sporting space.
The City also recently spent approximately $340,000 on the installation of sports floodlighting at the reserve which reached practical completion in December 2020, providing 200 lux lighting across four new poles.
The City are now progressing through the design process for the upgrade and extension of the Goodchild Park Clubrooms, with construction planned to commence in mid-late 2021.
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries have approved a $220,000 grant through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund as a contribution towards the works, which has a total project budget of $800,000
‘Phoenix have built a community of selfless people who want nothing more than to grow lacrosse‘

Building Community. Building the ‘Spirit’ of the game in all areas of the club.
Uniqueness of Lacrosse.
‘I feel like there is a spirit to lacrosse that captivates people, it does much more than teaches them how to play sport‘

This upgraded facility ensures Phoenix can promote the uniqueness of Lacrosse.
Lacrosse is a worthwhile and unparalleled alternate sport option for children and youth that do not find their place within the high profile sport options available.
This sport has a history of providing a niche opportunity for players that have not found a comfortable place in main stream sports.
Lacrosse offers playing opportunities from local to international levels and the sport can take you onto international education pathways & worldwide employment opportunities.
Phoenix stands for….

To develop conscientious & skilled players.
Field competitive teams.
Provide a sports club with a prominent sense of community.
‘Growing up playing lacrosse at Phoenix I learnt that sportsmanship and integrity are the most important thing’
